Have a laptop (Parkard Bell Igo) running windows XP sp2.

when switching on the laptop i receive the following error message on a black screen and cannot get passed it.

Error accessing Boot Sector File
multi(0)disk(0)partition(2)\BOOTSECT.DOS

Please could someone advise me what i need to do to get it working again?

got the os cd and running it - got to the point where it lists the existing partitions and unpartitioned space on the laptop, it displays following

28616 MB disk 0 at ID 0 on bus 0 on atapi (mbr)

e: PArtition 1 (inactive (OS/2 Boot man 2000mb( 868 mb free

c: Partition 2 (HDD) (NTFS) 26616mb ( 7681 mb free

which one do i select to set up windows xp onto? i am choosing to install sp1 not sp2 as i do not want to use sp2 - just in case that makes any difference as to which one is selected. Also ... do i need to delete any of the partitions?

Thanks

Paula

no boot

get a boot disk from bootdisk.com and try changing your boot.ini file. should say someting like this :default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
If this don't boot it use the boot disk to run fdisk on it and remove :
PArtition 1 (inactive (OS/2 Boot man 2000mb( 868 mb free
then make :c: Partition 2 (HDD) (NTFS) 26616mb ( 7681 mb free, avtive
should work if your mbr not scrambled. if it is you will have to remove all the partions and reload os. good luck and have fun with it.
