Laptop Mouse going Crazy, happens with external mice as well, Help?

I have a Dell Inspiron 8200 Laptop (Windows XP) and recently the mouse has started moving around of its own accord, I literally have to fight it at some points, and at times it simply will not move. I don't know how to fix this problem, i've tried re-installing the mouse drivers, and plugging in external mice to see if it helps, but its still crazy. Is there a known solution to this problem? I really appreciate any help that can be given here, thanks.

you can try disabling the touchpad (or whatever integrated mouse you have)
