Links and additional IE window failure

Hi there, I'm new here and was just trying to follow the first steps posted by SPike but I'm having trouble viewing the steps. The issue I'm having with my computer is that I can't click links that open new windows. When I try to, my current window hangs. I end up having to go into task manager and end procress 'IEXPLORE.EXE' so I can open a new window to start over. Very frustrating.
