Lost all sound

I seem to have lost all sound after installing a windows XP security update. This has this happened before and the only way around this is to re-install XP. Anybody got any suggestions?

Try reinstalling the drivers for your sound card? (This presumes no other changes to0 your system). If you look at the manufacturer's website (motherboard of on-board sound card) you might find an updated driver.

The wire attached to your speaker could be coming off or something. You should check it. Push the wires in. You know?
OR... IT COULD BE MUTED. MAKE SURE IT'S NOT MUTED.

Thanks for the tips, actually sound came back when I re-booted. Not sure what I did right this time.
