Hi Got a memory question that i,m not sure why it shows up as it does. I have a hp A747C PC with a 3.2 hyper-threading processor, It had 1 gb of memory and i just added 2-512 mb PC3200/400Mz chips. It works fine but in bios it says that it is PC2700/333mz. This PC is supposed to be able to run PC2100,PC2700, and PC3200. I know that the memory is running sloower that it can be run. Any idea why it says thjat and if there is anything that needs to be changed(jumper), reset or anything else? I went to the memory supplier website and it lists the memory that i bought as PC3200/400 mz. Thanks!

First question, what speed is the ram that was in there originally? If the original 1Gb of ram is PC2700 ram, your motherboard will automatically underclock the new ram in order to match the old.

If your old ram is also PC3200 ram, then please give us your full system specs (motherboard make/model in specific)

It is a ASUS PTGD1-LA ,Grouper GL8E mobo . The specs only say that it will support the 3 different speeds, not what was actually installed. before i added the new memory, i don't remember bios ever saying what speed the 1 gb memory was. I 'm not sure the faster speed would make that much difference. Thanks for your fast reply DonNagual.

Maximum allowed 4 GB (4 x 1GB) requires the replacement of the installed 256 MB DIMMs
Speed supported PC3200 MB/sec

THIS IS HOW IT WAS LISTED BY THE PERSON I BOUGHT IT FROM ON EBAY. SO I AM ASSUMING THAT IT WAS PC3200.

slot #1 says PC3200 200(mhz) 1024mbytes, slot 2 says PC3200 (200 mhz)512 mbytes, slot 3 says PC3200 (200 mhz) 512 mbytes, Intel Pentium 4 540, Socket 775 LGA

it says nothing under the memory tab for frequency, just ubder the spd tab. under timing tables it says frequency 166 mhz, first box, next box it says 200 mhz. cas # latency it says 2.5 first box, next box it says 3.0
