Just building myself a new pc, started with an ASUS k8v-se deluxe mobo and was wondering if a Mobile AMD 64 3400+ socket 754 would be compatible.
I currently have a amd xp3000+, 160Gb sata, 1024 ddr 400, 256 6800Gt . But i think i need a better cpu for gaming purposes. Any help would be appreciated.

Mobile AMD CPU

I have a mobile AMD CPU in my desktop, it does not read the correct speed but functions OK. I only use this machine to test software that I aquire over the internet, so speed is really not an issue. However, I have an identical machine using the same speed AMD CPU but is not a mobile processor, it reads correct speed during boot-up and performs much better. I would stay away from the mobile processors for desktop machines. The mobile processors are designed to run at variable speeds according to the power source.
Also, the motherboard you have is a Socket 462 and the AMD 64 processors are Socket 754 or 939. The 64 bit processor is incompatible with your current motherboard.
