Mobo/hdd compatibility Question

Sata run at 150mbps, sata2 run at 300mbps, sata2 hdd's should be backwards compatible. I have a friend using 4 sata2's on his system with a raid card and mobo that are both sata1 with no problems.

Thanks for your reply. Does this mean that my sata II will only run at SATA I speeds?

Yup, thats the case. They will run at 150mbps. And they should be fine if you were to upgrade to sataII at a later date.

Will I notice the difference?

Else I will perhaps spend another $70 on a better mobo.

What I dont understand is that on the link it sais 4x3.0mbps slots....

Sata is half the speed of sataII so there is a fair difference. But if you have been using ata up 'till now then even sata is a bit quicker.

There isn't any real difference between the two. I've used in the past my SATAII HDD with a SATAI mobo. It was real quick.

And today I have a SATAII mobo, and performs EXACTLY the same. No differences at all. :)
