Monitor problem

The monitor on my Aunt's computer won't "turn on." When we press the power button all that's on the monitor is a box saying the monitor is working correctly. It's the message you get when the monitor is on but the computer isn't. I checked the cords and everything is plugged into what it should be. Any idea what I can do to try to fix my problem?
Thanks

Sounds like this is due to a bad cable...maybe. Does the pc have two ports on the video card that the monitor is capable of being plugged into? If so, it could be plugged into the wrong one. Or, the monitor could simply be bad. Or the video card is shot. Or the agp (assuming the card is agp) slot is fried. It really can be a number of things. Please list the system specs if you know them.

And one of the more easier things to try:
Pull the plug on the PSU and the monitor and put it back, then start the machine. Try it in different combination. If any of those work it might be trouble with the PSU and the monitor in the same power strip.
