Monitoring Disk I/O

I need to monitor disk I/O on three server to determine if we can place the three servers on a virtual platform. I have list of counters to use. I am a little confused about physical vs logical disk. Should I monitor both? Can anyone shed some light on this topic for me.....Thanks

Well, what exactly are you trying to determine?

Logical disk counters refelect activity per logical drive (the thing with a drive letter on). Physical disk counters reflect the activity per physical disk as Windows sees it (a single drive or a RAID array or whatever).

Basically we have three servers that are somewhat i/o intensive per the vendor. I am trying to determine if they are good candiates for our vm enviroment so I wanted to get a baseline of the actual disk i/o. All three servers are dl380 g4 with the c and d drives both RAID 1+0 on Smart Array 642. Thanks!
