Motherboard/533/667/800 Compatability

  1. Im looking for a motherboard for my E6400 and Im a little confused when it comes to specs on the DDR2 memory. The board of choice for me is the GIGABYTE GA-965G-DS3 LGA 775 Intel G965 Express which has onboard video. On Neweggs site this board has (under specifications) "

Notice: Only DDR2-800 memory supporting JEDEC approved 1.8V operation with timings of 5-5-5 or 6-6-6 is supported on Intel Desktop Boards based on Intel 965 Express Chipsets"

My question is this. Can I use DDR-2 667 or even 533 with this board as long as the Latency is a 5 or 6 at 1.8v? The notice is what the probem is for me. Ive never seen a warning like that posted.

    Thanx for your reply.

    Hi fulchat,

that warning only refers to specific DDR2-800 RAM where the chip's SPD info does not match the JEDEC DDR2-800 specifications. you should have no issues running DDR2-533 or DDR2-667

    cheers
