mup.sys is killin me

I too am getting the dreaded mup.sys problem. So I tried doing a repair from boot <XP HOME by the way> It loads all the setup files then goes to "searching for previous installations" it just stops. If I go into recovery console, it asks me which installation do I want to log onto. There is only 1 C:/windows and it also freezes right there. It freezes before even asking for admin password. So it sees that there's an install, but seems to freeze in a pretty similar way for both. Any suggestions ??

Test the hard drive with the manufacturer utility. Test the system RAM with memtest86(+)..

mup.sys is virtually never to blame. The poor thing just happens to be the last driver Windows loads before starting up and therefore it is the last thing shown in the debug output before Windows itself crashes for whatever reason.
