My computer will not boot...HELP!!

Hi, My old notebook running XP Pro will not boot. During windows shutdown I received the new windows updates to download.....when the computer shut down I could not restart again. It goes into the normal windows startup screen then seems to shut down showing this message at the top on a blue screen - STOP: C00000139 (Entry Point Not Found)
The procedure entry point FlSSEtvalue could not be located in the dynamic link library KERNEL32.dll. - I tried booting with the Windows insallation disk with no success, ive tried 'safe mode' again without success....i am at a loss what to do.....i need HELP!!

If your sure you can`t get into the Recovery Console,

I`d say either -

- remove the hard drive,then attach to another computer,

either on USB or as a slave internally,then copy your personal data off,

then reformat.

OR

- try the Ultimate Boot CD to copy data straight to your DVD/CD,

using one it`s many utilities.

You may even find a tool on there,that will allow you to fix something,

or maybe not.: (
