I've had some drives detect as cd drives before - but they still worked for DVD's. Howards advice is prolly for the best...

when you put a cd in drive it will view as a cdrom
try a known good dvd disc see if it shows up as cd or dvd
device that you listed shows as Lite-On DVD Drive???
best bet try a dvd movie

Yeah so I have been using my DVD drive normally for a few years now, and recently I tried to install a game that uses a DVD but when I tried to install it, it wouldn't detect it, it would try for a while but then nothing. Then when I put in a normal CD it could run it. And when I went into my computer it showed it as a normal cd drive. I have no idea how this could have happened? Is there anyway to reset it back to normal, is it broken? This is what device manager says the drive is called: JLMS XJ-HD166S

Hello and welcome to Techspot.

You could try uninstalling the drive from your device manager. Then, reboot your system, and let windows redetect the drive.

Of course, it could be that the drive has gone bad.
