Mysterious CD burning problem

Status
Not open for further replies.
I am unable to burn audio cds.
I have a Windows XP system with SP2, AMD athlon 2500+ on a Biostar motherboard w/ nforce chipset, 728mb pc 3200 ram. I have an IO magic 52x cd burner and a cd/dvd burner as well that burns dvds fine, but cannot burn audio cds. I have tried numerous combinations to fix the glitch but nothing works. I recently reformatted windows, and before loading sp2 I tried burning, but nothing works. I have tried different brands of media, nothing. (The same media works well on an older dell system) I thought it could be hardware, but seeing as I cant burn with my dvd burner or the cd burner I dont think that is the case. I have tried Nero 6, Winamp, Windows media player, and a few shareware burning programs... no luck. They begin to burn but around 40-50% they say unable to complete the burning process or burn process failed.

The more perplexing issue is that I have another system with an identical burner that has the same problem. I built both systems, but at one time both of them burnt cds fairly well. In my other system there was a slight progression with the problem. In the beginning Audio cds were fine, then they began to record with skips in them, now it cannot burn either.

I would greatly appreciate advice of any kind.
Take care

You'd have better luck by sending the log to nero.

Does the optical burner specs say it burns audio cd's? What other programs were you running at the time? Including those icons in system tray.

know it is alittle latebut.

i have been getting the 16399 error e_fail from ultra 7 nero.looked and looked but no answers any suggestions?
