NEC LCD1565 Failure Mode

I have two surplus, non-working NEC LCD1565 Monitors that both have the same problem. When I turn them on, they display a solid color, then after several seconds a different color. The pattern continues indefinitely. It doesn't matter whether or not the monitor is hooked up to a computer. Has anyone encountered this before and/or have any idea what to repair or replace?
