hi there, my laptop has for the last week or so been showing false windows bubbles informing me that i have "virus, trojan horses and malware" infections, and prompting me to click the bubble to remove it, upon which it installs some sort of scanner and then tries to get me to buy a program.....it also opens several explorer windows (never firefox) to the homepage of this program

the named infections are :

PSW.X-Vir spyware
SpyWorm.Win32
Net-Worm-i.virus@fp
Trojan-Spy.Win32@mx

i have tried several different scans and removal programs, some of which locate the files, delete them, but then they reappear.....can anyone help me to delete them for good, or suggest how?

First stop clicking on the popups telling you that you have viruses etc... and second, someone will be along shortly to explain it to you, or you can search for the thread containing the 15 steps to clean your pc or click Here or Here

Hi goldie76uk and welcome to TechSpot.

You need to have a read of this - If your system is infected. Read this before deciding whether to CLEAN or REFORMAT.

Then if you should wish to proceed with cleaning your system you need to go and read the Viruses/Spyware/Malware, preliminary removal instructions. Follow all the instructions exactly.

Post fresh HJT, Combofix, and AVG Antispyware logs as ATTACHMENTS into this thread, only after doing the above.
We also need to know the result of Panda Antirootkit.

This thread is for the use of goldie76uk only. Please don`t post your own virus/spyware problems in this thread. Instead, open a new thread in our security and the web forum.
