Need new Modem advice

I need advice on buying a good new external cable modem. The one I have is 7 years old and acting like it.
I am presently using a Terajet DOCSIS Cable Modem made by TERAYON COMMUNICATION SYSTEMS. My OS: Windows XP PRO - 450Mhz - Pentium 3
What type of Modem can I buy that will give me good performance without having to go too deep into my empty pockets.
Would appreciate any advice.

I am not an expert. I got a special deal from my ISP (Cox Communications) wherein, by signing up for high-speed internet, I got a modem for 1 penny. It is a Motorola Surfboard SB5120 series. I have had it for over a year, and have had absolutely no issues with it. Newegg currently has it for $61.99 USD.

Others certainly know more than I, but this has been a good one.

check what modems are compatible with your isp.. tehy will give you a list and then see which ones you like.. (or it will at least narrow down your choices... )
Places to try are Ebay, non-chain retailers (depending if they have a sale on or not) and computer parts stores and no one forgets google....
