Need sound advice for flightsim speakers

As soon as the qx9650 is out I'm building a totally new no budget pc just for FlightSim and video editing. Have never messed with pc audio. Gave my current machine to the wife, then bought FlightSimX, so I can't try it for some months. I will use a good sound card, and I have a very good amplified subwoofer, but nothing else. Does FSM immerse me in SurroundSound? Do I even need stereo to duplicate engine noise?
