networking computers trouble

i just got an ADSL connection so i put in another NIC in my computer so my two computers could still be networked. but the network card i put in my pc isnt showing up. i am using Windows XP sp2

"isn't showing up" means what? Surely, if you open up the case, you still see the thing?

Check the Device Manager for any unknown devices. Also, some BIOSes list the PCI devices they find. You should see two network controllers in the list (right after POST, right before the bootloader).

Try the NIC in another slot or in another computer just in case.
