I had everything working as I would want it and an old computer decided to die, not sure whether it was the processor or mb but one, so I built a new computer and put XP pro on it, as I had home on all before, now I can not share files. What is wrong?

Please someone help.

Hi

So you had Home on it before and now its Pro but the other machine is Home ?

Here's what I did, on the home machine turn off "Simple file sharing" its in explorer tools >folder options >view, at the bottom of the list, now go into the firewall settings on both machines and make sure "File and print Sharing" is enabled, even though its not really important make sure both are in the same workgroup, I think Home uses "MSHOME" and Pro uses "Workgroup", then set the folders you want to share on either machine and you should be good to go.

Regards

XP/Home only has Simple File Sharing

all XP/* have a default workgroup name of MSHOME

I have changed the workgroup to the same name but have still not got the sharing working again and have done everything told me to do. is there something in the router that needs to be changed to get the two systems to play together.

google "XP home file sharing" or search this board "file sharing"
