New CPU, now video skips!

Hi Guys,

Here's my problem. I was recently running a media center PC with an AMD 3000+ CPU. Worked fine for just viewing DVD's and HD video files but was slow running other applications at the same time.

I upgraded the CPU for an AMD 64 X2 3800+ and reinstalled the OS. I have installed the same hardware drivers that I was using before for the graphics card, TV card and motherboard and now when playing video from a file or watching TV through media center, the video keeps skipping. It's not smooth at all. However, if I play a DVD from the disc the video is perfect.

The only things I can think of are the drivers are not performing correctly or it is a cooling problem with the CPU. Is there a way I can measure whether the CPU is being cooled sufficiently?

Any suggestions appreciated,

Many thanks
