New graphics card

HI guys i need to get a new graphics card because my old 6800gt is bust... and i was wondering whether i should get a better one or stick with the same. I have AGP 8x and whats the deal with so many companys making the 6800gt i thought it was just nvidia.. are they all as good as eachother... i gues not because theyre not all the same price... obviously im a newbie... help!! thanks

If you are wanting to stick with nvidia, then the 6800 Ultra is the top of the line for AGP (unless there is a card I don't know of), and if you are looking at ATI the X850XT is the top.

As for your question about nvidia, Nvidia makes the brains for the cards, then other companies take nvidia's technology and make the final product. That's why there are so many 6800gts out there. They all have the basic nvidia brain, but then the various companies take it and modify it as they build their cards around it. Some are better than others.

As DonNagual stated nVidia makes the GPU chip.
Some companies use lesser qual video ram, sdram, ddr, ddr2
and various combinations 128mb, 256mb and 512mb.
I'm pretty sure they all use the same nVidia drivers.
Also many features are different, digital out, mulit monitor etc.

A big selling point for me was warranty, some have lifetime warranty.
There's a big diff between the GT and the ultra...
gt= 379x 779
ultra= 400x 1000
some will respone to OC better than others too.
