New motherboard but errors with installing

so i ordered a new motherboard and video card about 2 weeks ago for my HP Pavillion a1025c and they arrived yesterday, my friend and i tried installing them and then when we boot up the computer the BIOS seems to show that the motherboard has been recognized...oh and i get a new intel screen at the startup, so we assume that its all up and running...but after the Intel screen the computer goes to the black screen with the blinking underscore (_) and it just stays there, does not go anywhere else...mind you we did just try the old plug and play, did not try to configure my computers settings beforehand and in the BIOS it did not seem like any configuration was needed...any suggestions?

are you booting from the windows CD? are you trying to format and install windows or are you just hooking up the hard drive you had and trying to boot with the OS that was installed on the other mobo?
