Samsung has launched in Japan a new cell phone model, SPH-V5400, that could be the first mobile phone to include a hard drive. As was to be expected the gadget doesn't come cheap with an estimated retail price of $800, the device comes equipped with a 1.5GB hard drive with a one-inch diameter, as well as two LCD screens of 320x240 pixels (primary) and 128x128 pixels.

According to this report, the device's hard drive can be used to store photos and digital music but it would seem like there's no music-playing software bundled with the phone.

About time!

I've been waiting for a phone with a proper storage capacity since before the introduction of thumb-/flash-drives...

Hopefully this will allow us to keep as many messages as we like, along with games, pictures, contact information and mp3's as we like instead of having to cope with the severe limits we've seen so far.
(Though that will only happen if the other cellphone manufacturers follow suit... Nokia, Ericsson, this is your wake-up call!)
