Hi
My name is Lau. I have a problem. My pc can not detect any soundcard after I formatted the c-drive. I have tryed to find the drivers that I need but I have not been able to find the right one? Right now I have no sound? Can you help me?

I am not sure. I think it is Intel that has made the motherboard. And I don't know what kind of soundcard I have. I used AC97 as a driver, but installing that hasn't helped. How can I find out what type of motherboard and PCI soundcard I have?

Is this a custom made computer? If not, can you tell what brand/model your computer is.

For example: Dell Dimension

Did you get any disks with the computer?? If you did, there should be one labeled Recovery Disk (operating system). The other(s) should be labeled Recovery Disk (drivers/applications). These disks contain all the drivers for all the hardware your computer came with. Although Realtek AC 97 Audio is the standard all onboard sound chips use, it's not the only one. MPU-401 could use quite a few different audio drivers. Liks ScRibE said, what is the make and model of your computer? If it's a prebuilt, the make and model should be somewhere on the front panel. If someone built it for you, did they provide you with the motherboard manual and the motherboard install disk? Without any of these, you might as well flip a coin.

It's "Intel inside" celeron. Medion is the computermanufacturer. I bought it prebuilt in 2004 and I can't remember if I got any cd's with my pc. I don't think so. After I formatted the harddisk I installed a different kind of windows, because I didn't have the original windows cd. I don't know if that matters.

assuming you're running windows XP now.(also works in vista)

START>RUN

at the search box type dxdiag, hit enter.

at the bottom part of the directX diagnostic tool window, click "save all informations".

save to desktop & attach the file to your next post.

do not copy & paste as it will occupy lots of space in the screen.

Here is the log but it said this after it had uploaded it.
"DxDiag error
Error: Problem getting extra sound info, result code=0x80004005 (Generic failure)"

Is this copy of Windows legal, or a cr@cked version?
Also have you got the product key COA label attached to your computer?

the sountap driver is for free

"click download on the menu of the page.

you might required to un-install the soundtap that's in your
computer & re-install again.since you dont have your mainboard's
audio installer.you should get a successful download of the
driver.

otherwise, try to log-in to the link i gave you on MEDION.

please read my previous post on how to get the driver pack.

I think it is cracked. And the productkey is attached to my computer. I used it when I installed windows.

you got a problem mate, you wont get all necessary windows update
which are absolutely very essential in installing drivers, identifying hardwares
unless go & get a genuine copy otherwise.

Well thanks I think I'll try that. Do you know how? Do you have to format the entire harddisk againg or can I just delete windows and install it again?

once you've purchased a genuine copy (OS),
all you have to do is a fresh install.i'm pretty sure
you've done that already, subsequently your onboard sound
got messed up (sound chip not being detected). ;)
