No sound after minor upgrade

just installed new maxtor hd and 1gb of ram into an acer pc. after installing the xp pro +sp2 there is no sound. there is no audio icon in the service tray either. wmp does open but will not play any audio, instead it tells me that there is no audio devices found or may be used by another programme. there is no other programme running though. i have downloaded and installed drivers but to no avail. after looking in audio properties, none are highlighted (grayed out). there no windows sound played on startup either.

You got the Audio Driver from BioStar, and for that model of 'Board, and for XP?

yep, installed as per instruction too. found some advice on fixes but they're not guaranteed to work. i wll keep looking. only other alternative is maybe install a new sound card:wave:
