If you used s-video, which is likely, then that's normal, s video doesn't carry audio. You'd need to run a separate audio cable to the tv from the pc, or just use the pc's speakers to play audio.

Most of the time you need a Y shaped splitter that plugs into a jack on your soundcard. This Y-adapter then has two RCA cables that you feed into your TV or stereo system.
Do you have the correct Y-adapter? Do you have it plugged into the correct jack on your soundcard? Do you have your TV/stereo selected to the correct source that you have the cables installed into?
