Norton Recycle Bin will only Recover, Not Delete

Hi...today when i was scanning my computer for viruses and spyware, i sent some things to the recycle bin and when i went to delete them it said that i could only recover the items, not delete them. I don't want to recover them, I just want them off my computer...I tried various options but nothing seems to be working. Any ideas/help would be greatly appreciated.
