  1. hi I am trying to reinstall windows xp pro and for some reason it won't let me do a clean install...I can reintall windows but all my old programs are there and I can no longer use them (says they aren't installed for this user). I just want to wipe out the computer as its due (hasn't been done in a bit and its getting bogged down). I've never had this problem before on this or any computer I've installed windows on. It says theres backup files on the selected partition and therefore it can't be deleted???

I am running a HP 933Mhz PIII with 768MB RAM (actually its my old computer I gave it to my parents for internet/email)

it sounds lik you did the installs from within widows. or at least did and upgrade and kept the uninstall files the first time you installed XP. if yuo can boot into windoes go to add\remove and uninstall the XP backup files there. then boot from the windows Cd rom and delete the partion and format it.
