OE 6.0 is Hotel California. Can Recieve, but cannot send.

My problem: I can receive emails, but cannot send. I receive error message "cannot connect to server, port 25 SMTP".
My setup: 2 PCs, both running Win XP Home, OE 6.0 as mail client, both connected through Linksys router, both utilizing Zone Labs internet security suite, ISP is Earthlink.
Earthlink blames Linksys. I bypassed router and connected directly through modem. No resolution.
Linksys blames Zone Labs. I disabled firewall and antivirus software. No resolution.
I have checked account settings in OE 6.0 numerous times w/o resolution.
I have serached MS help pages w/o finding answers.
Does anyone know how to fix this?
 
the earthlink outbound server is mail.earthlink.net but smtp.earthlink.net
works also (at least it use to)
port should be the default #25
user name is only the emailname of emailname@domain.net

on your firewall ALLOW all outbound any port 25
or configure your email program to be allowed in/out any ip, any port


post back any err messages you receive after this change
 
try this:

outgoing server:

smtp-server.xxx.xxx.xxx where the xxx is your server

in my case I use roadrunner so for me it is smtp-server.elp.rr.com

good test which points directly to your email configuration parms.

The parms for my earthlink account before I changed over to cable hispeed. You be the judge. ;)
