As much as i hate to say that im a noob, BUT I AM !!!
The thing is : Im due to make and ''game'' server i need to select a random port
Now, is there any limit to ports ? Where can i open ports manualy ? I know i can do it on windows firewall in advanced settings but my firewall does not activate ...well if it sayd i cant start the service in there i went on manual, wnt to controlpanel services and tryed to start it whrom there but an error 10047 replays to me .
So now i have 2 problems firewall, and is there anyother way to open ports with out that firewall, PS: i have ZoneLabs
Replay me on *********@hotmail.com ( its msn and email together, add wich u like )

Edit: Do not put your email address on public webpages! -- Nodsu

zonelabs will not run along side other firewalls happly
your lucky it runs at all.
The Well Known Ports are those from 0 through 1023.

The Registered Ports are those from 1024 through 49151

The Dynamic and/or Private Ports are those from 49152 through 65535
if zonealarm fails you disable it in startup
switch back to xp
if xp firewall does not run you have diff other problems like a trojun and or spyware already on machine
I can't stand ZA they s**ck big time in my book
+++end of rant++++++++++

Three issues: your router (if any), the firewall, and the game-srvr.

1) Pick a port and get the server running. Then attempt to run the game as a client would, even though you're on the same system.

2) setup the Firewall to Allow all to/from all port $whatever
use another system and access your game server on $whatever.
Your game-client machines may need to allow their firewall outbound port $whatever too.

3) on the router, port forward $whatever to your server-ip-address
(which says, you're going to need a static address for that machine).

Im not behind an Router ....
im not sharing my internet with anyone ...

The point of the pport opening for me is :
When i crated the server (sometimes works =S, but i cant live with that) after creating a seassion it tould me altough you could connect to lobby the lobby can connect to you ... and then it tould me to make sure my port is open and if my firewall, router aint bloking it ...

I mostly want to know how could i get my Windows Firewall back running ???
PS: Its '' how to say '' Broken , not shwitced off !

uninstall the server check with MS on firewall fix
this gaming server may have done something to the firewall

gaming servers often open one or more ports for the user, much like FTP.
On FTP, the connection is made on port 21, but the data flows on port 20.
if the firewall doesn't open both ports, FTP just hangs. The circumvention
is to use the FTP command passive before you transfer any data.

run Google on cports.exe; this tool will show all ports that are open and which
program opened them.
