overclocking advice please

Okay...I was thinking of overclocking my vid card a little.
I currently have ASUS N6600/TD/256 GeForce 6600 256MB DDR AGP 4X/8X. My clocks are 300/500 with stock cooling.
My other system specs are:

• AMD Athlon 64 3000+
• 512MB Corsair XMS Pro DDR 400
• Antec 500W PSU
• Gigabyte GA-K8NS mobo

ASUS comes with a Smartdoctor utility that allows you to overclock. Should I use that or Rivatuner? Any suggestions on clock settings?

Don't overclock is my recommendation. MSI has a utility that will automatically step the processor clock and bus clock until the "fastest" settings that produce a stable system are reached. I suppose the utilities you mention will do much the same thing

I agree with Tmagic,

Overclocking a Videocard is rarely worth the performance gain. Unless the card is water cooled or has a large cooler for both the core and memory, there is some risk involved. You may see 1-5 FPS increase in games but I have also seen quite a few video cards from a long term overclock.
