Parallel scanner, but no parallel ports.........

Is it possible for me to connect an old parallel scanner to a new pc that has no parallel port? I was wondering if I could get some sort of external adapter that would allow me to do this, or do I need to get a new usb scanner?

Yes, there are PCI parallel port controller cards. You can have one for less than $10.
