Passwords

I just bought this laptop (Inspiron 1100) from a yardsale and was trying to fix it up when my friends decided to lock me out of it using user passwords and then forgetting them. Is there any way i can change those passwords or turn them off so i can get into the computer to finish re-booting it. Please help me!!!
