PC turns itself off

My PC will work just fine as long as you dont do anything. It will stay on all night but when you try to do anything like install something or go to control panel it turns off. It wont turn right back on you have to wait for a few minutes. Everything been reinstalled and reformatted. My brother had the computer before me and it worked fine for him for 2 or 3 years. Any advice would help. Thanks

Your problem could be any number of things, and the best thing to do is start troubleshooting one component at a time.

Here is a guide to help you try and find out what is going on.

cooling fans go bad are they all running?
not next to a heat vent
turn off xp stop on errors
my computer /properties/advanced/startup settings ,untick restart on errors
my guess is bad memory

Turn it off.
Unplug
Open the case
Clear out the dust in it with compress air.

Also check all fans and CPU one too.
Check all connections inside and out.
Could be a bad keyboard or mouse

Just have to track down the problem.

What would a keyboard & mouse have to do with turning off the comp? =P
