PC will start up, but no monitor or keyboard

(I hope this is the right place to post this; if not, I apologize...)

I recently refurbished one of my older computers for my young son. It was working fine, and then one day he came in and said 'it's not working'.

When you press the power button, the computer starts up - by that I mean the fans and drives go on. There is no beep. The monitor has an orange light and the keyboard does not light up.

Since I don't know what he did to it before it "stopped working", I'm not sure where to troubleshoot first.

The mobo is a Gigabyte GA 7VT600. The processor is an Athlon XP 2000 (I think). It has a video card (can't remember what) and a Turtle Beach Santa Cruz sound card. There is 512 of OCZ 2700 memory (2 sticks). I checked all the connections and reseated the cards. It's running XP Pro, SP2. The DVD drive lights up and opens and shuts.

This could be caused by quite few things. Hopefully it`s not a mobo problem.

I suggest that you try changing the psu, with a known working one.

If this doesn`t solve you problem, then disconnect anything not required to make the computer boot.

If it then boots, start adding one component at a time untill the system doesn`t boot, and that`s your culprit.

Regards Howard :)
