Not quite frontpage kind of news but well worth a look, from Slashdot news... the kind of thing that makes me hate pop music so much.

"Sometimes technology is a good thing, and sometimes it ends up in a hardware device called an autotuner. Apparently, it allows real-time pitch correction. They are actually being used at concerts. I think we all realize that some singers sound different -- much different -- live than they do on CD's, but this just seems so, so, what's the word: fake?"

Anyone remember the NSync episode of the Simpsons?

:D

For those who don't know what I'm talking about, Bart, Millhouse, Ralph and Nelson become a new boy band - with help from both NSync and a piece of equipment that makes their voices sound like their pop idols. Towards the end, it gets shut off, and their real voices go on singing, and everyone is disgusted...
