Hi,
I've had my computer for almost 3 years now and I'm beginning to get frustrated by a noticeable deterioration in performance. Specifically, videos in Windows Media Player no longer play smoothly, stuttering every 4 seconds or so. Also, music playing in MusicMatch skips when I open Internet Explorer.
Startup is also slower, both booting into the Windows login, and subsequent login to Windows. I use XP, by the way.
I've posted my HijackThis log, which seems quite large.
Does anyone have any ideas for improving performance? I've heard Norton software is slow, and also that SP2 has a slowing effect on performance. Is this true? I've had my Norton software since I bought the computer, but have upgraded it since. Could this be contributing to the slow performance I'm seeing?
I'm thinking about wiping my hard drive clean and reinstalling Windows from scratch, but I'd prefer not to as it would obviously take me a lot of time with all the subsequent reinstallation of software, and given the age of my computer, I'm not sure whether this would solve my problem.
I'd really appreciate any help or advice anyone might be able to give me.
Thanks
