Please help! problems with component cable from DVD to TV

Hi! I am trying to set up my new (my first ever!) TV and DVD player, and I bought some component video cables (the red, blue, green) to make the connection. The TV works okay, and the DVD player plays fine with an S-video connection. However, when I use the component cables, everything goes pink. Nice for Hello Kitty and friends, but not at all cool for Star Wars.

Any suggestions?

at least one of the rgb cables is not making a connection, perhaps a cable is bad or they have not been fully inserted. a multimeter can easily be used to test them, if you have one.

Thank you for the reply! I don't know what a multimeter is, but I'll look into it. In the meantime, though, I did notice that if I plugged in the blue and green cables before the red cable, there was a picture, and only when I plugged in the red did the screen start blushing ... is it possible that the red cable is drowning out the others?

no. you have either bad components or cabling, assuming there aren't any settings you missed.
