Hi all my plextor drive keeps giving me an unspecified recorder error when i try to burn something; anything, and i updated firmware and all but it dont work.

I do not see any System Aspi files in your error message.
Check InfoToll in Nero .
If it is corrupt , Download 'Force ASPi 1.7 'Google it. use ' dumpaspi ' and then 'installaspi' from CMD/Command
Try with DMA turned off , and if you have the jumpers on your drive set to Cable select > Change them to their actual position ie. Master/Slave
Let us know if you have any luck.

jumper is MASTER

That's what I thought,
Go here and Download the file Forceaspi1.7 http://radified.com/ASPI/forceaspi.htm
Read/print the instructions ,it runs from A command window in the directory that you unzip the file to.
It is not complicated and the dos commands are straight forward.
You should only need to run Dump and then Install.
Call back if you have a problem .

Try;
-Cleaning the read head
-a different brand of media
- slow the write speed down
-make sure you turn of all other Programs ,Unecessary Services and especially Screen saver ,TSR's
-Try with DMA turned Off, then On
Go to Plextor site and search support for "Unspecified Recorder error"
Let us know if you continue to have trouble after trying these things

SO I FINALLY MANAGED TO GET IT WORKING thanx for all your help. What i did to make it work was: while my computer was rebooting i pressed and held the button to open the disc tray the light flashed like 3 or 4 times, and after reboot i burnt Elder Scrolls IV: The Oblivion and guess what it worked. If i encounter this problem again i will post, anyway thank you so so so so much. :bounce: :giddy: :wave:
 
Alright ! that is an interesting fix.......I will remember it. I am not sure what that did .... Maybe shocking windows into finding the drive properly .... especially after you updated Firmware. Weird but not impossible,the good ole reboot rides again!

You have a lot of CD-Dvd roms?

Why turn off autorun??
 
DMA and Autorun can sometimes cause issues in some programs like Nero .I cannot explain the technical basis , but I know that Autorun starts a sevice in windows , that investigates the inserted Media at the same time Nero eg. is trying to prepare the disk for writing etc. I can see how it could be a conflict. These are just common settings to change when you are having problems.
I see you have not listed Drive letters " G: > I: " I take it these are HDD's or partitions.
Either way I do recommend you change your Rom drives to Letters late in the Alphabet ,I use " R:,V:, W: etc" This reduces conflicts in Windows.

As for your problems with that drive........

It starts with "all writers idle" this recognition issue is always tied to . A Bad Drive>Cabling-Jumper settings>Firmware>software setting>HDD free space and defragmentation>Media brand.

Since you had a successful burn (after the reboot) I would assume your issue lies with windows-software settings. Communication! not Hardware
You used the 'Disk at Once" copy that failed ,Try dragging the files to copy to set up your burn in "Burning Rom or Express" in other words set up your Copy session Manually.
Try an older Firmware file
Also check for Copyright settings if the burn is commercially purchased..... in which case I cannot help you with it.

Hey, Liquidlen, after all i figured that i had a problem in windows that was somehow connected to my video card, so i backuped everything and formatted. I made 3 DVD copies since and no problem. Usually it used to die after making the 1st copy. Thanx for your help :wave:

I am seeing this more and more, background services, Auto-update software
and Screen-savers,TSR's etc..Seem to stop DVD writing more so than CD writes.????? Turn that junk off.
Anyway glad your up and running.
