I have a problem with a 120gb western digital hard drive, ititially I lost all the data (I think a virus may have deleted the File allocation table).

I recovered all the data with a recovery program, but now I cannot boot from the drive.

Windows xp setup cd recognises the drive and copys the setup files over, but when I try and boot from the HDD it will not work, it says disk boot failure.

Is it worth me doing a low level format or any other suggestions?

If youhad to use ecovery software to get your data off the drive your best bet is to reformat and reinstall windows.

I couldnt even do that...

But I must confess I have wasted your time:

The reason I was having problems was that I had set the jumper to master when there was actually a seperate setting for "single drive". After I corrected that it worked fine.

Thanks anyway.
So for the trouble.
