Problem with dvd-rom

Hy guys,
While reading cd my dvd-rom suddenly stops read disk and disappears from My computer. I even can't open it. All I can do is to turn off my pc and just after turning on I can open dvd-rom. It happens then I copy a lot of files from cd to my pc. How can I fix it?

Check the settings in the BIOS to make sure the PIO value for the CD drive is set to auto.

you can also open the cd/dvd rom drive using a paperclip by inserting it into the little pinhole near the cd/dvd tray opening. Push it in gently and it should open the tray about an inch then gently pull it the rest of the way open.

You might also want to purchase a cd/dvd head cleaner on a disk and you may also try cleaning the disk you're trying to use. The new disks are usually the dirtiest. Anytime I have cd/dvd rom problems, I clean the heads and the disk and everything works again.

Thanks a lot for all advices. I cleaned the heads and now all is ok.
