  1. I don't know if problem like mines has been posted because look through the sticky about OS and i didn't find a similar problem. A few days ago i was try to reinstall Windows xp and everything was running smoothly until i accidentally shut the power. Now when i start the computer it saids
"Window could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
    <Windows root>\system32\hal.dll
It saids to reinstall a copy of the above file.
I don't know how to reinstall the file. Also I have try just reinstall the OS and said the same message. I configured the bios so that the cd-rom drive would boot first but the same message appear. The motherboard i use is ASUS P4S800. If anyone know how to fix the problem tell me. Thanks

you will need to reformat the drive. The boot sector is corrupted. reformat and reinstall. clear your CMOS battery and then put CDrom first in BIOS.
