I have two pcs both running xp that share a modem but are not networked.
Basically one is fine the other cannot get online at all I have tried everything.
the modem can support both of them at once have been doing both together for a few weeks, this problem has recently popped up. I cant get my laptop to go through the modem at all ive tried everything.

im trying just my laptop by its self with the ethercable and usb cable but neither will work, usb drivers are installed.

Thank you very much

the modem isnt made to support both ethernet and usb at the same time, im quite surprised they worked this long, you can buy a a small switch or hub, that should work, you would just need 2 ethernet cables instead of usb and ethernet

well after you unplug the two plug in the ethernet and unplug the modem for 10-20 seconds then your modem will reset itself and recognize that noe theirs just ethernet, or usb which ever you plugged in

In your last post did you mean that you tried both cables in the laptop and neither worked? Or you tried the USB on both computers?

For what it is worth... I have a laptop and when I first got it I tried everything to get it to connect to the internet, with no luck. Come to find out, in order for the ethernet port to work I would have had to ordered it seperate from the factory and they would have put a card in for it to work. So the port was still there, just not functional.
