problem with popups

Hi having a problem with popups. Have run spybot, adware and ewido most viruses removed but still getting some popups. here is a hjt log;

Boot into safe mode. See how HERE

In Windows Explorer, turn on "Show all files and folders, including hidden and system". See how HERE

Go to add remove programmes in your control panel, and uninstall anything to do with(if there)

C:\Program Files\Winguard Popup Remover\Winguard.exe

Close control panel.

Open your task manager by pressing the ctrl/alt/delete keys together.

Click on the processes tab, and end precess for(if there)

Winguard.exe
wsntfy.exe

close task manager.

Run HJT with no other programmes open, and let HJT fix the followin, by putting a tick in the little box next to(if there)

Now click on the fix checked button.

Close HJT.

Click start/run, and type services.msc into the run box, and press the enter key.

When the window appears maximise it. Locate the above 023 service, and double click on it. Stop it if it`s running, and set the starup type to disabled. Click apply/ok.

Delete the following bold files(if there)

C:\Program Files\Winguard Popup Remover\Winguard.exe
C:\WINNT\wsntfy.exe


Reboot your computer into normal mode.

hi Again

I tryed everything above. I am still having problems.
See another HJT list below:
The thing that stands out to me is the line:
O20 - Winlogon Notify: Group Policy - C:\WINNT\system32\ir2sl5f71.dll
I delete this entry but it keeps coming back, if I delete the file on reboot. There will appear another similar named file when I next run HJT.

Any ideas guys?

Download L2mfix from one of these two locations:

Save the file to your desktop and double click l2mfix.exe. Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts, then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop. Double click l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing enter. This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening, then, after a minute or 2, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it into this thread.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!

Ok. Now do the following.

Close any programs you have open since this step requires a reboot.

From the l2mfix folder on your desktop, double click l2mfix.bat and select option #2 for Run Fix by typing 2 and then pressing enter, then press any key to reboot your computer. After a reboot, your desktop and icons will appear, then disappear (this is normal). L2mfix will continue to scan your computer and when it's finished, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it back into this thread, along with a new hijackthis log.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other files in the l2mfix folder unless you are asked to do so!

Download the trial version of Spy Sweeper from HERE

Install it using the Standard Install option. (You will be asked for your e-mail address, it is safe to give it. If you receive alerts from your firewall, allow all activities for Spy Sweeper)

You will be prompted to check for updated definitions, please do so.
(This may take several minutes)

Make sure you are disconnected from the internet.

Click on Options > Sweep Options and check Sweep all Folders on Selected drives. Check Local Disc C. Under What to Sweep, check every box.

Click on Sweep and allow it to fully scan your system.

When the sweep has finished, click Remove. Click Select All and then Next

From 'Results', select the Session Log tab. Click Save to File and save the log somewhere convenient.

When prompted, allow Spy Sweeper to restart your computer.

Please post a fresh HJT log.

Hi, thanks for the reply, I am going to run spy sweeper in a minute.

However, I think I may have fixed the problem, but Im not totally sure how I done it!!

I ran two programs: Rootkit remover and Autoruns (both downloaded from http://www.sysinternals.com

And one of these or a comination of them seems to have fixed the problem - the recuring entry no longer appears in HJT log and its seems no popup windows either!

I will still run the spysweeper scan, but check the HJT file below:

Go HERE and follow the instructions.

Then go and have your computer scanned HERE.

Then, go and read both these threads by RBS. Follow all the instructions exactly.

How to remove Trojans and its ilk! and How to remove Begin2search / coolwebsearch and other nasties.

Then post a fresh HJT log, in your new thread. Only after doing the above.
