On what are you trying to listen to sound? What are your system specs and have you deleted, installed or changed any programs or drivers recently?

In other words, have you done anything that might have caused this "loss of sound"?

Go in the system device manager, to get there easy go into the control panel and look for the system icon. Click on Hardware tap (asume you have XP SP2) scroll down to sounds and see if the device is loaded. You can un-install audio device and then reboot the system. Then Windows will re-detect the drivers and installed them once again. You'll have to reboot the system again.

Or

Did you plugin the power for your speakers?
Did the connector come out of your speakers to your PC.

If your getting no sound but your speakers are on and u know their working for shure, then u must reinstall the motherboard drivers, which will also install the driver for the onboard audio you have. GL,,
