Today i tried to install the spyware online protection from Aol. It turns out that it drastically slowed down my computer. everytime i turn it on, it shows me a message saying that there is a suspect file and to run Mcafee (which sponsers aol i suppose) and so i can not open anything.

Yahoo online protection i think was trying to tell me that i have a virus or something or that sort because everything is slow. How do i fix this problem? I can't open anything up and so if i can't, i can't use the net, play games, use microsoft programs or anything....

As of right now, i am running a hardrive test to see if it'll clear the problem out, if not, how can i fix this problem in my laptop.

Lastly, is it a virus or not?!

thanks and i hope i get a response soon.

Hi,

If you suspect you have a malware related issue, I would suggest you do the following.

Important: Please read this thread HERE before you decide whether to clean or reformat your system.

Should you decide to clean your computer, please go ahead to Viruses/Spyware/Malware, preliminary removal instructions and follow the steps given. These are a comprehensive mix of steps to remove common malware, as well as provide us logs of your system to look at so we can further remove any tricky nasties.
Do follow all the instructions exactly.

Thereafter, please post fresh HijackThis, AVG Antispyware and Combofix logs as attachments into a new thread in our security and the web forum. Do not copy and paste your logs if not it will be ignored and/or removed.

Also, please let me know the results of the AVG Antirootkit scan in your post.

Regards,
Your friendly momok =)

UNINSTALL IT?

there are better choices anyway :)

As a previous user of AOL Safety and Security Center, I would suggest uninstalling it and going with AVG for antivirus protection, and Spybot and Ad-Aware for spyware protection. I've heard good things about ZoneAlarm for a firewall, but I have never used it. I had AOL Safety and Security Center on my computer, and also noticed a great slowdown when trying to do anything on my computer. I've used the combination of AVG, Spybot and Ad-Aware for about three months, and have had no problems with them.
