PSU problems

Help, I am now on my third psu (enermax EG701AX-PVE SFMA 24-pin psu) the first didn't work at all, the second couldn't quite find the boot power to get up to full speed and the third is completely dead as well. but i must say it was reading a 3.1 on the ps-on connector wire before i plugged it in. My question is, are there any compatiblity problems with this psu along with the abit ic7-g mobo. Three psu's tell me that it won't work with this mobo.

That mobo needs a 20-pin ATX12V compatible powersupply, not a 24-pin.
Lots of modern PSUs come with a 20-24 pin adapter.
Anything from 350W upwards, from a reliable company such as Enermax/Antec/Fortron should do. Check for PCI-E and/or SATA connectors as well.
