Question about different anti virus and firewall programs

I just bought a new laptop and they looked down @ me when i told them i ran free stuff like AVG and Zonealarm saying it wasn't that good or secure compared to Norton etc. Is this true or where they just trying to make a sale?

Norton is advertised to be the best and they are well known, because they have been around for a long time and come pre-installed on many new PCs. However, Norton is a resource hog and not user friendly anymore. Plus it is not necessarily the best.

On-line publications like PCWorld, ZDNet and CNET have done tests to see which ones are the best. To check, just Google one of them.

I have used AVG, Avast and ZoneAlarm for years and find them to be very adequate. In addition to your free ware, if you use common sense, you will remain virus free.

I agree totally with TangoTrolly.

Here`s a list of security programmes I recommend.

AVG free or Avast antivirus programmes.

Zonealarm or Kerio free firewall programmes.

Spybot Search & Destroy.

Ad-Aware se personal.

Spyware Blaster.

AVG Antispyware.

Ccleaner.
