Question About RETAIL amd64 chips + coolers

Having only ever installed oem chips the sticky patch on the bottom of my heat sink confuses me rather



do i need to use thermal compund still or is this sticky patch the same thing?

You can use that thermal patch, it is the same thing.

But if you have good thermal paste at hand, scrap that patch off and use your paste instead. It seems that good thermal paste gives better contact than those retail pads.

You should never re-use a thermal pad. They are questionable at best, and will never do a proper job when re-used anyway!
Look after the CPU, it's expensive enough!
